- If you select an item with the Command() key down, the Finder will get info on it.
- If you display the popup menu and let go of the mouse right over the Strip icon, the folder shown will be opened. In earlier versions you could only do the same thing by clicking very fast on the Strip icon.
- Miscellaneous modifications like if the resources cannot be opened, the user will be notified with a dialog.
Updated Stuff (since 1.1.3):
- Now shows the enabled and disabled items in the same menu. The enabled ones have a bullet ('•') on the left.
- Holding down modifier keys while clicking on the strip icon will show different files in your System Folder:
<SHIFT> Shows the Extensions
<Control> Shows the Control Strip Modules
<Command()> Shows the Apple Menu Items
- If you hold down the Option key while selecting an item in the popup menu, the item will be moved to the trash.
- All events to do things such as opening control panels will now work if the front application does not support Apple Events.
- What more could one ask for?
• About This Strip:
What is it?
This is a Control Strip module who's strip icon is pictured above. To use, simply put it into the Control Strip Modules folder and restart. If you do not have a Control Strip Modules folder (located in the root of your System folder) then you probably do not have the Control Strip control panel installed. Apple does not permit me to distribute Control Strip to other people (probably since it comes with System 7.5.) Desktop Macs can use Control Strip by modifying it with the Control Strip Patcher program that is widely available online (and on Skidperfect's www page listed above.)
Features:
• A popup menu of the all the items in your Control Panels and Control Panels (Disabled) folder when you click and hold down the mouse on the strip icon (pictured above). The enabled Control Panels have a bullet (•) on the left of the menu. Choosing a control panel will open it, switching to, or launching the Finder if necessary.
• Holding down modifier keys while clicking on the strip icon will show different files in your System Folder:
<SHIFT> Shows the Extensions
<Control> Shows the Control Strip Modules
<Command()> Shows the Apple Menu Items
<Option> (for Desktop Strip) shows the Startup Items
• Clicking once and letting go of the mouse quickly on the strip icon will open the Control Panels folder (or the appropriate folder if a modifier key is down at the time.)
• If you hold down the SHIFT key while selecting an item in the popup menu, the item will be either disabled or enabled, depending upon its current state. You do not have to hold down the shift key to enable or disable extensions or Control Strip Modules.
• If you hold down the Option key while selecting an item in the popup menu, the item will be moved to the trash.
• If you want to change the name of your control panels disabled folder and know how to use a tool like ResEdit, simply edit the resource of the type 'sdis' to whatever you want. This is very useful for non English systems.
